Huta has an active policy of environmental protection, which is aimed at minimizing the impact of its operations on the environment by complying with environmental standards and regulations and conducting activities to reduce emissions from the plant at the macro level. Since 2007 Huta has an integrated permit, which specifies the overall task of environment protection.
To reduce a direct environmental burden of its production, Huta uses the following environmental activities:
In 1996 Huta received TÜV Cert confirming the compliance of its quality system with ISO 9002. This certificate is culmination of several years of work in the area of improving the organization and operation of selected areas of the plant life. In addition, in 1996, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Director of the Polish Center for Testing and Certification and President of the NOT Federation admitted Huta the Enterprises Cleaner Production Certificate confirming Huta's previous achievements in the area of reducing its burden on the environment.
Since 2002 the plant has a certificate confirming the compliance its quality management system with ISO 9001:2000.
The system is subject to continuous improvement and is conducted in accordance with current regulations. Currently, the plant has a certificate for compliance with ISO9001: 2008.
The scope of Huta's quality management system and environmental management includes the fulfilment of two major processes – production and sale of ferroalloys and fumes. In order to ensure proper and smooth operation of those processes, the auxiliary processes are assigned. Management processes are supporting the proper functioning of the system and the organization.
In the beginning of 2010, the necessity to fight against global warming and the regulations aimed to this purpose, resulted in the commencement of works on accession to the European Trading Scheme for CO2 emissions. As a result of this works, Huta received in June 2011, a permission to participate in this system since the third period, i.e. 01.01.2013.
Silica fume obtained in the production of ferroalloys is a very good addition to the production of concrete. Parameters of the fume improving the properties of concrete are constantly examined by the factory production control and accredited laboratories. Fulfilling the requirements of standard EN 13263-1 by SILIMIC® (trade name of our silica fume) is confirmed by certificates of the Institute of Building Technology, which we have since 2008.
Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) was entered into force on the 1st of June, 2007. Based on these rules Huta registered ferrosilicon and SILIMIC®.
